Rex and Chris (thank guys!) wrote in to tell us that Adobe has released a security update for Shockwave Player for 11.5.2.602 and earlier versions for Windows and Macintosh

Full details are available on the Adobe support site at www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb10-03.html

Shockwave Player, not Flash Player.

Can Adobe make the fix any more difficult for the average user when the steps are uninstall, reboot then install? What about corporate environments where the reboot step will cause all kinds of grief for the automatic deployment of the update?

Right from the bulletin, "Adobe recommends Shockwave Player users uninstall Shockwave version 11.5.2.602 and earlier on their systems, restart their systems, and install Shockwave version 11.5.6.606 ..."

Ken,

Adobe makes MSI installers available to corporate users for Flash, Reader and Shockwave. You can then distribute the MSI to your users through whatever mechanism you choose (group policy, SMS aka System Center or the like, etc).

You can register for the free redistribution license here: http://www.adobe.com/licensing/

For what it's worth, I have never done the remove/reboot/reinstall with Flash and I've never seen an issue. Just run the new version installer(s). Be sure to update IE and Firefox with the appropriate installer for each!
